Subject: Van hesitates--where to start troubleshooting?
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I have a 90 Vanagon Multivan 2.1L just returned from camping a week ago and the van ran fine except I did start to notice some hesitation/surging whenever I need to give it some extra gas, like during acceleration or going up hill. No problem starting, in fact when the engine is cold it seems to accelerate without hesitation so I think I may have a problem when I need fuel enrichment. The idle is a little rough too, but not real noticeable.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas where to start troubleshooting this problem. Just put new plugs in a week ago and did an oil change. New heads and gaskets about 10 monthes ago. Van has 87,000 miles and the fuel injection system has never been serviced to my knowledge. I pretty much am thinking I'll just check components out as outlined in Bentley and work through it. O2 sensor is also original. Van does cruise at 70mph without a problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

TIA,
