hi Scott, if my memory is still good, i can say that about a year ago, the same subject went on for a while... was it not nice when i was in my teens (many years ago) and we just added grade 10 for winter grade20 for spring and fall grade 30 for summer and no problems occurred... guylaine and i still have the west 85, but we bought a winnebago le sharo, diesel 85, two months ago... some people like trouble and cannot keep out of it ??? anyway (s ), we had 15w 40 diesel put in for our vacation ( 3000 miles) in myrtle beach and the outer banks...as in our old diesel jetta or west for the summer, this seemed to be the oil and everything went fine ... but it is now getting cold in quebec, and our mecanic without telling us, did put castrol synthec 5w50 in the sharo for the winter...we might go down to florida and he decided to do so !!! i remembered that a member a year ago, had said that a difference more than 30 was not good at all and was even bad ???? ...i have been telling a lot of people about this, and never had a straight answer...., so should i be using 0w30 instead ??? i guess that alaska would be the true place to try 0w30...or 5w30, but not 10w40 ?? pierre a. lachance lac beauport, quebec p.s. i am happy to hear that wobbly is still in good shape after what happen in the driveway ....a year ago... is my memory good ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott De Santi" <Scooter061@AOL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2000 5:32 PM Subject: Re: should 10W-40 be avoided?
