The key word was "almost" entirely. All the way off - okay. Your exhaust
also allows you to "hear" it better. My '85 had a little sound at part
throttle like a two stroke..

Check your throttle switches. I'm not sure if the '84 Digijet does the same
thing, but the Digifant turns off fuel injection when you're above some RPM
number (2500?) and foot off the throttle. I suspect that the throttle
switch
is not being pushed and therefore FI is not being turned off.
Go back to the engine compartment with the engine off and manually move the
throttle. You should hear a click when you take it off idle and another
when
you put it back to idle setting. If not, check the cam on the switch and/or
the continuity.
