No need to shell out $ for platcats or carvers. Just add venting
and a heat exchanger to a standard Kerosene heater. You get the idea on:

Used it over christmas in PA last winter and for a trip to
Canada, and plan to use it in Edmonton this year.

Only trouble so far is explaining the contraption to police
and customs.

Cost:
Kerosene heater: free (Incredible what kinds of good stuff people throw
away in CT. Found almost all my appliances on trash day, including
an almost new 27" TV!! Several other poor international students
at Yale did the same when I was there.

Copper piping: free (Leftovers from building our lab at JHU)

Flexible vent tube: $.84 at 70% off when caldor pulled out of Rochester.
