Subject: want an 83.5 Westy?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Anyone know of someone shopping for an 83.5 vanagon?

I've just moved from California to New York city. I had illusions of trying to keep it, but there it no way. It is currently in Alexandria, VA. It is in pretty good shape, and made the trip across the US flawlessly this summer.

Specifics:

White 83.5 Water Cooled Power Nothing CD player Full Camper (everything works great) Capn's Chairs hitch with great hitch mounted mike rack I keep it really clean inside.

Recent Stuff (last 6 mos) new heads, both sides new water pump, clutch etc when engine work was done new shocks and tires (8 ply) all around new windshield

Known problems: -there is a minor dent on the panel below the windshield -there is very minor seam rust below the camper outlet panel -typical small scrapes/scratches around the car -front bumper in great shape, rear not as good but ok -slight oil leak from engine - not sure where from but not main seal.(haven't had time to figure it out) -also, vehicle uses about 1qt oil/1K miles. oil usage increased with increased compression as a result of new heads. hasn't been a problem for me -probably needs a new starter. every once and a while I have to rap on it (the starter) with a wrench. -the rear heater core hose connection seems to be leaking. you guys know all about this. I'm probably going to bypass it this weekend when I am down for a visit.

I really have fallen in love with this vehicle. It is my first and I hope to get another when I move to a place where I can use or even park it. I bought it with head probs, knowing that it needed work. The engine was a factory rebuild w/ 80K and the tranny had been rebuilt about 20K before I got it in San Francisco. I had the usual problems getting everything right, but it is now quite reliable. I'm hoping to get around $5K for it. Let me know if you know anyone interested

PS - I'm going to be in the DC area this thurs through sat if someone wants to see it and talk to me.

try me at 917 868 7014 and we can try to set something up
