Subject: Road Trip - PA to AZ

Since it's Friday, a fun topic: road trip! :-)

My wife and I are hoping to take a trip from PA to AZ in November some time, taking 4-5 weeks for the round trip in our "new" '85 Westy. We are, of course, taking our now 7-week old daughter along for the ride. Furthermore, we hope to caravan with another v@v couple for most of the trip.

Our path will probably take us to Darrell Boehler's house, St. Louis, down in to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and on to Arizona. On the way back, we hope to take a more southern route through southern Texas, Louisiana, Alabama (you gonna be around Unca Joel?), and Tennessee.

On to the questions:

1) Any suggestions from those who have taken extended trips with small children?

2) Are any of you along the possible path willing to let us park in your driveway and maybe run us a powercord for the night? We actually prefer this to being invited to sleep in a guest room since we know and love our Westy bed. Furthermore, our little one won't wake anyone in the house when she's ready to eat every 3-4 hours.

3) Stuff to see along the way? We hope to do part of Rt. 66, on which I have a decent manual in "Road Trip USA". We won't have an extreme amount of spare time, but if there are any "must see" sights along the way that we might otherwise not have thought of, please send suggestions our way. I did get one of the National Park passes, so Nat'l Parks will be free to us.

We are, of course, taking the LiMBO TTT book, so we'll start there in terms of VW contacts.

Oh, and if anyone wants to caravan along for part of the trip, let me know.

Regards,

-Karl
