<< Hi, Has anyone put brackets on their Westy poptop to attach thule or yakima type racks? I have a bracket on the plastic topper of my truck and would like to put a similiar one on my westy to carry my kayak and still be able to put up the top. TIA Juli '84 Westy "Horace" >>

Juli, I have brackets made by Yakima on my Westy pop top. They are small metal plates with a small ledge for the rack feet. They bolt on - you gotta drill holes through the sides of your top, but they work extremely well, enabling you to mount most any brand of GUTTER mount type of roof rack. A metal plate on the opposite side of the bracket (bolts sandwich the bracket, Westy top, and reinforcing plate) distributes loads so the fiberglass dose not crack at the holes. I have a regular Gutter mount Yakima rack mounted to these brackets, the cross bars are about 5 inches above the Westy top. I like it, works.
