I got one of those universal mounts and put it in the channel between the back door and the body at the upper left rear corner. I got a firestick antenna with a quick disconnect because I don't want to keep it on all the time. I snaked the coax through the air intake cowling at the back and am very happy with the results.

Has anyone had luck mounting a ham or cb antenna to the steel roof under the luggage carrier up front on a westy? Is there enough ground plane to achieve good SWR? I do not want to do a side mount...unless the performance would be significantly better. I also do not want to spend money on a good radio if i am never going to be able to transmit well due to the poor ground plane.

Thanks for any info. And I'd love to hear any other good mounting locations that have been tested on a meter. steve
