Thanks everyone for your input. We decided to buy the bus and tow it to an old VW mechanic that we have been dealing with for some time. Of course I have to call him tomorrow and ask him if he also works on diesels. If the engine has good compression then we will keep it. I am aware of the cost of the fuel pump. I just didnt want to wind up having to buy a new engine. Of course we are only speculating on possible things that could be wrong with it. It could be something simple, who knows. If the compression is good my husband can do all of the other work on the bus. We have the room in the garage and plenty of time to fix it b4 the spring. Once we pick up the bus and get an idea of what exactly is wrong I will let you know. Thanks again for all your help. That is what I like so much about this list. Sharon
