Heaters, racks and tires, tis the season.

First off, there was a 1980 vanagon westy in the SL tribune today for $800. I called. ~90K leaking compression, new tires, not sure the type, body said to be almost rust free, some dings and bangs. Sounded like more than I needed to do. That's all i know, I did not go look. search in the classified ads at www.sltrib.com for vanagon or westfalia, westy, etc.

I have Yakima brackets on my 82. They've been all over the western US with bikes, canoes, rafts, windsurfers, etc. for 5 years now. Not one problem. I do remove heavy stuff prior to popping the top. See em at: http://www.kokopellisgarden.com/vw/ then click on other modifications and then Top Mounted Roof Rack. Look at the millions of pickup truck shells using this setup with even thinner shells. When I drilled holes in my camper top I was impressed by the thickness. I applied a coating of silicone around the bolts and holes and have absolutely zero problems with leakage or movement.

Good luck with your choice and install. Ken 82 westy
