Not sure if it will work with the diesel head (don't see why not though) but
the new "trick" is to use a Corrado G60 style one piece valve cover gasket.
Seals much better.  Techtonics Tuning www.tttuning.com has a complete
upgrade kit for $20.  These guys know VWs so they would know if it would fit
or not.
