Hi- I have the diesel starter apart on the workbench for my tdi conversion. Was wondering how tightly the armature should fit into the bushings in the ends of the starter motor (diesel differs slightly from the standard starter into that there is a housing on the end with the drive gear). I don't have an wear guidelines to measure bushing diameter or armature diameter and I have no experience to draw on... I'm just looking for some quick off the cuff estimates of play... Like there should be absolutely no pivoting movement allowed, just a couple degrees is fine, look for burn marks etc etc... TIA dave |
