This summer I rebuild a 1.9 engine core for my 1983.5 van.This is for those interested-what I did and cost.
Beginning of the year,I brought a 1.9 engine from a list member,Jason D in Austin,Texas,replacing with a 2.1 due to coolant leak(the heads were pitted).

    Total cost: $C2042.61 + extras (like,beer,oil,cleaning solvents etc) so approx $C2200 I have a great       
                     clean running engine except for a small oil leak  around pulley seal.As you can see there are ways
                     of doing it cheaper.

    Haynes and Bentley manuals were a great help.With a rebuilt eng core,it took only 3 days to replace 
    engine and be back on the road.
