Volks,


I have been reading the archives and it seems that the cause of cold air
drafts near the driver's and passenger's legs is one or more factors:


1.    kinked or tightly bent control cable not allowing vent flaps to close
tight
2.    fresh air vent flaps in heater/vent housing not sealing shut due to
decomposition of foam seals
3.    detached fresh air vent ducts at attachment point to heater/vent
housing


One solution suggested in the archives was to just block the fresh air
intake behind the upper radiator grill.


My questions are:


1    If there is not fresh air coming into the heater/vent housing will this
cause a problem when using the heat? Like, will the heat exchanger over heat
the unit somehow?
2    What will be missed if the fresh air vent is blocked off... I never use
it anyway.
