In the great white north, er um, Canada, Volkswagen offered the gasoline fired Wabasso coolant heater on some Syncro models. This heater has a timer on the inside of the cab and it kept your coolant at a constant 80C so when you hopped in your Van at -30, you could actually start it and get heat within 30 seconds!

A few weeks ago someone mentioned connecting an external engine water heater to the water connections at the oil cooler. Are there any drawings or pictures of this setup? I am interested, but I don't really see where there is room to do it.

Has anyone else used external engine water heaters, and if so, where did you attach them? It seems that it is difficult to get the required elevation rise from the first connection to the second. I was also wondering what size or wattage, would be best.

Thanks ahead for your responses.
