Aux air valve has a bimetal element that rotates the valve disc in response
to temperature.  It also has a heating element that warms it up and makes
it close -- exactly like Federal-spec automatic chokes except that they
open instead of closing.  Unlike the choke, the air valve opens by itself
as it cools down, instead of being latched open until you floor the pedal.

I don't know for absolute sure, but I don't think the mounting location is
critical.  The Bosch FI book doesn't mention it as a factor.
