Subject: Shift rod install on 81

Listees, I am having trouble getting my linkage right, and I figure that a few transmission people, or others may have gone thru this as well.

I have had the motor out a few times, and learned the hard way that it is advisable to remove the final section of linkage from the transmission, or you may bend it BTDT.

Well, before removing linkage this time, notched the union where the middle and rear pieces joined and took off the car.

Put back on, lined up marks, and when I try to go in reverse, the thing jambs in gear, and upon looking at the spot where the linkage joins the transmission, can see that the shift rod appears to be going too far back, thus jamming the little nylon balls in the linkage.

The Bentley/Haynes method is not very helpful, so looking for greater logic.
