Subject: high idle sometimes
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

My 86 2.1 engine has a funny quirk. Sometimes it decides to idle at 1900 rpm. This seems to be happning more often now that temperatures are starting to cool off outside, and it seems to do it more at operating temp. Sometimes, it just stays there, sometimes it comes back down to 900 rpm. No real pattern as to when or why or anything.

Looking through the Digifant (_digifunk_) manual, it says to check the throttle switch. Doesn't seem like that's it to me. Now going onto the idle stabilization circuit, I see it gets an input from the coolant temp sensor (now I recall something about that from before on the list...). Of course, the book says to use special VW adpater, yadda, yadda.

Now as you can tell, I've only been sitting here and staring at the books. I haven't stuck my head under the engine cover yet. I was kind of hoping someone had encoutered this before and could give me a good place to start checking voltages, etc (after all, that's the best thing about this list - almost every problem has been previously encoutered and a solution found!).
