The Vanagon has a deceptively low center of gravity due to a couple of things, the most notable is the placement of the engine, which is mounted extremely low when compared to a typical SUV. I drive my Vanagon very hard through corners and go out of my way to take the twisty roads when I can. Although I have gotten four wheel drift in it I would recommend it and don't do it often. This is in my 87 Wolfsburg with the lower suspension, 205/70R14r tires and Bilstein shocks.

On a side note I have noticed my Michelin MXT tires had a very positive impact on my Vanagons handling. They have a more rigid feel through the corners and side winds are much less noticeable. The previous tires were Michelin MX4s, not reinforced.
