I just got my 84 running correctly today. Are you sure the air box you swapped was good? The reason I asked is because mine did the same thing and also ran very rich. I cleaned the air box several times and finally put a ohm meter accross the varing pins and found at just above a idel position the resistance jumped way up. Continuing to move it upward the resistance would come back down and continue to rise smoothly. I cleaned it real good rubbing with a clean cotton cloth wetted with freon cleaner I've got and now it's perfect. I let my wife drive it for the first time!
