SAM's club sells a group 41 Champion battery for $34. Bought one last week, and installed it last Sunday. VW should have shot and/or fired the junior emgineer who designed the battery box. You need to move that battery hold down clamp to the extreme left of the box while vertical, let it fall over to the bottom, then bungie the ground and positive clamps out of the way. You can then use a battery strap that fastens to the posts (small diameter rope with the appropriate Boy Scout knot also works) to remove the battery. Not fun, but not too bad if you know the "tricks". Tom Goff - 1984 full Westy - original ower, 85K miles - Highland, MD |
