Subject: '87 VANAGON -Poor start/worse idle- the cure! (wordy)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Vangon ran fine all the way home from the car wash (a red herring) yesterday. My daughter drove it away after dark (un hareng) and only made it 2 blocks before it lost power and would not restart and stay running. We pushed it pert near home. Gas pedal hinge came adrift (easily fixed with 2 sheet metal screws- please don't fret). Jump starting it with my powerful new Dodge Caravan only produeced a few seconds of poor idle this AM. After church and a bit of gardening the charger had replenished the bat. Wiggling wires did not help. Pulled the Genuine newish Car Quest distrib cap-and Eureka! such filth under there. Fine dust everywhere. Carbon? Bits of the brass terminals? Anyway, it ran so well after reassembly that it started right up and idled at nearly 1800 RPM. Let's hope it stays in tune and doesn't strand anyone. George
