Subject: Westies: Extra storage and better sleep!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Are you like me and not using the upper bunk? Take it out! It only takes a few minutes to remove or install, and you will open up a space large enough to store a considerable amount of luxurious bedding. (Don't put anything heavy up there or it might come flying out and hit you in the head in the event of a hard stop!)

At this point in my life I am seriously into comfortable sleeping accomodations whether at home or on the road. This space will allow you to carry a cushy mattress pillow top or egg crate foam pad, sleeping bags, and real pillows without filling up the rear of the van with them.

On a related note, a serious sleeping advantage of the early Westies ('80-'84) is the flat, standard foam block rear seat cusion. I am going to replace this rock-hard teutonic torture mat with a much softer and thicker foam. I will also modify the covers to snap or velcro onto the seat platform so they can be easily removed for hauling messy stuff when needed.

Those of you (most of you) with the standard contoured rear seat could really benefit from the extra bedding!

Sleep tight!
