_________________________ UPDATE: __________________________

Meanwhile, back at the van. I replaced the idle switch, set up as per book. no change, rechecked wiring, swapped ECU's again. rechecked all grounds. checked with ox disconnected, no difference. Still have heavy surge just off idle. The only change comes with disconnecting the coolant temp sensor. we specialize in only working on VW's and have been doing this for over 20 years and we are getting ready to call it quits on this van. I know someone out there has had to run into this one before. Please, any help will be stop someone from having a stroke here. It's not even a full moon yet. It's too simple of a system but we just can't find this problem. HELP

Hello Gentlemen, I have a 85 Vanagon that came in for a severe surging just off idle, it's fine at half throttle. We did a full tune-up, checked for vacumn leaks, replaced all engine ground wires, checked fuel pressure. The only thing we can do to make it better is to disconnect the coolant temp. switch. We changed the switch with no success. We swapped air flow box, ECU, checked idle switches, and did a pin out test at the computer. If anyone has any more suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, Bob.
