OK... I know this has NOTHING really to do with a Vanagon other than Volkswagen uses Stihl products in their literature but here goes...

I am the owner of the Stihl 009 chainsaw. I figured that if Germany can design some of the best automotive engines in the world they should make pretty decent chainsaws. Besides, if you look at the equipment in the Vanagon Transporter brochures they always have Stihl chainsaw or bush cutters - is there a connection to Volkswagen? Considering that I am a only weekend chainsaw warrior I think that the stats are pretty impressive at 40.8cc and 1.5kW at 10,500 RPM - almost most on spec with a 1.8L VW engine for cc/kW!

Since I bought it back in August, I have ran about 4L of fuel thru it and the damn thing has been in the shop three times now due to poor running. Is it me or is there something wrong with the design of the motor! Perhaps it was assembled by some ex-Trabant assembly line workers?
