Well... Daddeo is a real syncro again. Had been driving for the past couple weeks without the center shaft in to protect the tranny, etc. from a bad viscous coupling. Sure feels alot better. Interestingly, the clutch shudder seems to have disappeared... at least the little bit that I drove it I noticed nothing. In 2WD only she was shuddering most of the time. But it does usually show up more when she's warm, so we'll see. But, man does she drive nicely again... I'm stoked. The redline seems to make a lot of difference. I was starting to get discouraged with all the repairs I've been facing. And the thought of putting in a new clutch was sticking in my craw... but maybe I don't have to now. We're camping at Kiholo Bay... in South Kohala on the Kona side of the Big Island at the end of this week... a real 4WD test, so we'll see how she performs.

Also, gave the syncro vc swap instructions to my mech, but he said they had to remove the front diff in order to do the swap... that in spite of the fact that the instructions say you don't have to. He says it was nearly impossible to do it any other way, and actually would have taken longer if they had been able to figure it out. He says he wants to hire the guy who says he can do it, cuz he says it's next to impossible.

Many thanks to you, Ben, and Derek Drew for guiding me to and through the vc swap and shudder problem. I love this list. My girlfriend thinks I'm (read "we're") nuts, but you guys/gals understand.

Doing the Half-Lilley (ecu chip, pauter roller rockers (1.4), cromoly push rods, K & N air filter, and tune up with quad tip plugs next week... wish me luck.

Mahalo everybody!

I was browsing thru a visiting friend's Winkler catalog and was floored by the number of custom parts that they sell for the Vanagons. I had no idea how much there was in there. Just the photos of custom mods on the Double Cabs are enough to make any Vanagoner a goner. There are body kits, poptop kits, performance goodies ... the works.

Does anybody know where I can get a (year) 2000 copy for cheap?

Thanks, BenT
