All this talk about Karmann Ghias as "real sportscars" brings to mind a KG TV commercial from the 70s. It was a spoof on the Shell gasoline commercials of the time. In the Shell commercial two cars were driving down the road.....one finally runs out of gas, the other drives through a large paper barrier which signified greater mileage from using Shell gasoline.... In the KG commercial the Ghia is driving down a similar road...the announcer talks about the KG as a sportscar, its reliability, etc... the Ghia approaches the paper barrier. The announcer says..."The Karman Ghia, its a sports car...." The Ghia hits the barrier but can't punch through it. The announcer continues..."its just not that powerful"....
