You can find a review of the 050 at http://www.type2.com/library/electrip/050rev.htm . I believe that there has been more than one Bosch distributor over the years that ends in 050, leading to some confusion. References to a vacuum advance 050 distributor would seem to confirm that, as the currently available "050" is mechanical advance. I have found the 050 distributor to work slightly better than an 009 in a type 4 engine. I tend to recommend it for busses and Vanagons with type 4 engines, given the very high cost of replacement vacuum advance units. I have not personally tried one on a type 1 engine. It does not have the retarded 3rd cylinder lobe. Cap, points, etc. are readily available, and it takes the same Pertronics as the 009. Availability tends to vary, as most Bosch wholesalers do not carry it at all. I try to stock up when I find someone with a few on hand. Currently I have three in stock. They are new, not rebuilt, for $69.95. - Ron Salmon The Bus Depot, Inc. www.busdepot.com (215) 234-VWVW |
