An item I'd suggest to anyone storing their Vanagon (or any vehicle) is lubrication of the locks. I'd suggest a shot of Tri-Flow or other Teflon based lubricant into each keyway. WD-40 would be a last resort. This is really a good time to lube the locks for everyone, as the winter salt can really create havoc with the locks. Many of the bad handles I get from areas that salt the roads are so corroded that they are unusable. Oddly enough, the vast majority of corroded handles are the sliding door handles and the right door handle. I assume it's because there's more salty slush sprayed up on the right side. Just my suggestions.
