Subject: Front Blower Failure Revisited
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I asked about this some time ago, but something new has been added in my case, and I thought I would run it by the list one more time, as it looks as if I need to really tear into the dash in depth.

Since I bought my van, the lower speeds of the heater fan would not work. Worked fine on high speed, or so I thought. I never really needed it so just didn't turn it on "HIGH" except for brief moments. I could hear the motor trying to turn at the lower settings, but it just would not go, so I never tried the lower settings anymore.

This last week we started getting our first measurable precipitation since last April.Talk about a dry spell.....! Anyway, the rains have come with a vengeance, and I have needed that fan to defrost the windows. Plenty of heat, but no blow except on "HIGH"..

Well, today while running on "HIGH" during a pouring rain, the blower quit cold. I turned the switch to "Off". When I got to work, I tried it on HIGH again. Turned right on.

So, List, what am I looking at here. Switch, Relay, Motor, All of the above? And what must I do to get at any of it. And how much of the stuff should I replace, especially if I have to go under the dash. I understand that the relay is inside the airbox. Is this true? Can I put it somewhere else for future ease of maintenance. Is there anything else under the dash that I should take a look at if I must take it out.

Any help here will be much appreciated.

BTW, my rig is an 88 GL.

Thanks,, John Rodgers 88 GL Driver in Birmingham, AL
