My '88 Westy has it too. I had no idea, until you pointed it out - and I've had the van for close to three years. I was going to say something like "Why isn't this in the manual"; but then I checked the manual, and sure enough, it's described there, clear as can be. So now I feel extra dense as I think about all the dinosaurs who gave their lives just so I could slop their remains all over the ground trying to stick oil bottles into the unextended filler tube.

It makes me wonder what other secrets my Westy might hold:

- Open trap door in floor to reach basement rec. room containing pool table and hot tub. - Standard tool kit under the driver's seat includes lug wrench, jack handle, table saw, and router. - Twist turn signal lever to unfold the wings. - Seldom-advertised full "extended warrenty" on parts and labor available from Volkswagen dealers for $9.95/year. - Avoid head leaks by moving switch in engine compartment from "head leaks on" position to "head leaks off". - Runs equally well on unleaded gasoline or distilled water.
