Subject: clean deisels?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Happy Friday Volks,

My state has increasingly rigid emission requirements. However, diesels are exempt from testing. Also, 80 percent of the population of my state is concentrated along a roughly one hundred mile corridor (Wasatch Front).

I wonder about the rapidly increasing number of respiratory illnesses and allergies in my area when I see black smoke rolling out the tailpipes of the rapidly increasing number of diesel powered vehicles. Particulates don't seem to concern the EPA. What's up?

I really like to fantasize about the possibility of putting a TDI in my 89 someday. Power, efficiency, economy.... . . nice package. They appear to run clean. What's the scoop on particulates? Are they in fact clean?

PS Anybody seen a bad running Rabbit diesel lately smoking down the road at tweny miles per hour lately? How could they not be terrible polluters?

regards,

Fred 89 Westy (runs very clean)
