You can't get these bearings out working from the brake side, the CV
joints have to be removed and the stub axles driven out.  As long as the
seals are good they may never need repacking, or at least not for 35-40
years when the grease dries out.  If you do go in there plan on removing
and repacking both bearings (two on each side) and replacing the seals.

If there is no bearing "rumble" to indicate a failed bearing, don't
worry about it.  I've got a friend with a 1971 Type II Dormobile
conversion with 450,000 miles on the original, untouched rear bearings
(he is on his fifth engine and fourth transmission, however).  Still
going, just like the Energizer Bunny, even though it is practically a
museum piece.
