Stuart -

That's an interesting comment. I have had more problems with tires that were too soft than I have with those that were stiffer

My current highway tires are 195/75 Kumho 852 LT tires. If the pressure is ~35 front 45 rear, it handles well. Lower pressures in the rear lead to a loose or squirming feeling.

The Vanagon is a truck, really, so LT tires are a good choice, IMHO.

This winter I am running four Courser 195/75 LT M&S tires. They are Bruneel's house brand and probably not available outside of the northwestern US. Not studdable, but they have worked well for me.

Load rating 93, Max load 1450 lb per tire. I haven't been able to find M&S tires with the proper load rating of 97, but these are probably stout enough because I don't load her to the hilt for vacations this time of year.

I couldn't afford them last year so I didn't buy them. What was the number of the one Craig just found at Schwab that was reinforced? That will work fine. You don't want too stiff a tire on the Vanagon, it gets all loosey goosey on the highway with stiff LT tires. You might call these guys and actually be able to talk to someone who knows the situation.
