Well, I bought a nice new set of injectors for my 1.6L NA diesel vanagon westfalia yesterday. I was using my torque wrench to set them in, and the #2 injector just wouldn't tighten past about 20 ft-lb. I remembered this cylinder had an injector that was super-tight and tough to get out. The thoughts crossed my mind- I bet it's stripped out.. new head time. No helicoil is going to do this job.. Then I though, I bet the sleezie car salesman/mechanic JB Welded this injector in, and that's why it was so tough to get out..

I started backing out the injector to assess the damages. The worse of bads happened- about a 1" chunk of my head fell off from around the injector hole as I was loosening it with the rachett... Ugh. No chance for fixing this beast. So, I'm in the market for a new used head. Apparently my local auto-salval yard has at least one. I'm less than thrilled with buying a head that's been used, but at this point my wife would divorce me if I bought a factory new head. In fact, I think I'll be waiting at LEAST another month before putting anymore money into it..

Thank goodness we have two vanagons, otherwise I'd be spiraling into withdrawl.
