Yep, but even new things fail... or some goof ball installs it wrong... I imagine it is possible to get one of the connections wrong...

That is the source of most Vanagon engine fires... that I have read about on the list... leaning fuel hose sprays gas onto hot exhaust pipes...

Yes... electrical fire... burn wires... if really unlucky burn through fuel line!
