I posted a while back about using a toilet bowl cleaner available at Big Lots called "The Works". It contains sulfuric acid and really did a good job cleaning the tank of an 83 Jetta. The car is still running fine months later.

Some will cry foul and say that the tank's integrity has been compromised, etc.

All I can say is in my application it was an inexpensive, highly effective solution. This car had been sitting a long time and had the gunked up gas tank to prove it.

Use this advice at your own discretion.
