'm sure I've told this story on this list before, but here goes the encore performance.

Back in 1970 or 1971, i was living in Ames , IA and quite hooked on VW's. While hanging at the local VW dealer, I got wind of a bus in Clarinda(SW part of state) that had a hole in the piston. Went to the wrecker yard, where the owner ended up and this hippie owner said that if I would tow the bus from Clarinda to Ames and deliver all the "head shop supplies to the campus head shop, the bus would be mine forthe ripe old price of the compression test done by the International Harvestor dealer in Clarinda. I was on my way in a blink using my roomates car to tow the thing back. the bus was a 1960, white and had no rust(from TX) and the double doors were on the driver's side for some reason. Slapped a used jug and piston on it that weekend and drove it all summer. Oh by the way, the shop ticket for the compression test was a fairly steep $3.61 and yes, I wish I still had that bus too.

Bill, Nope, the figures are correct. I was a crazy kid and would have 15,to 20 cars at once. You could buy a decent running car for $15,00, back in the good old days. I remember one car (that I wished I still had) that I bought for $20.00. It was a 56 Pontiac Starchief convertible, Red and white.same color leather interior, white top. Had it for awhile and traded some mad man for 7 other cars, and a Harley 3 wheeler. This kind of thing went on all the time. And the best part was, I only had one set of plates! Used to rotate the plates depending on which one I was driving. Boy, was I a crazy kid! Thank God my youth was prior to computers! Hey, I only payed $150.00 for the Vanagon! Found out this morning that my troubles last evening, were not of the catastrophic nature. Coil hot wire decided to fracture off the connector, at the coil. Just didn't see it at 8:30 last evening, on the shoulde of the road. Boy was I hot. ( not in temperature either)

Later,
