Well, it was set up like that for a while. But then, people who know of the list, but may not be subscribed can't post (or if you have two email addresses and one you use only on the road, like a Hotmail address, and you find yourself in trouble, you can't post to the list from your other account). There are certain people on the list whose mail headers Gerry doesn't like, so it would reject them as well. All these exceptional emails had to go through Tom Carrington, and there would be a few messages a day that were from "person@address (by way of T. Carrington)" or something like that. It was felt that the extra burden on Tom wasn't worth the odd spam message. The new software upgrade for Gerry was supposed to be better at identifying and deleting spam than before. Maybe not?
