brian, buy a cheap car! i also have an 87. last year i drove it in illinois on the great salt roads and regret it. i now have small rust bubbles all over and it made me want to sell the van. i've calmed down and i bought an older cadillac that i will be able to keep running for next to nothing compared to repairs on the vanagon. my vanagon is now nicely tucked in my garage for the winter.
