This is really a follow up to my weak battery post of last night. The battery tested ok, and all the ground straps look good. i had the FLAPS check out the alternator, and when a load was put on, the belt squeaked on each turn. The belts are due for a change. So, I'd like to change the alternator belt and power steering belt on my '87. I think that I can see the appropriate bolt for each belt that must be loosened. What I'm unsure about is how to hold the alternator/power steering pump in place when tightening. I'm used to looking for some place to position a lever when I've worked on other vehicles. I think that I can use the alternator to tighten the power steering belt, but I can't see where a lever would work for the alternator. I looked in the British Haynes manual at the picture, but I cant' make it out. So, does anyone have the scoop on the easy way to change/tighten the belts? All help is appreciated, and any other tips are welcome. Thanks, David |
