Well, they all hiss while the pedal is BEING depressed. The real giveaway is if they hiss when you stop and switch off the engine. If it still hisses, then trouble!

My symptoms usually manifested when I pressed the pedal a few times in succession. After about 3 or 4 presses, the pedal got much harder & I really had to stand on the thing to get the vehicle to stop. Scary ....
