This is probably absolute naivete speaking (not to mention computer and internet ignorance), but what if - as an entire List - we approached the right VW magnate and suggested they make the EKTA cd available online only for vanagon list subscribers. Is there any way to limit access to list subscribers? One would think such availability would, overall, give VW a little more business in new parts. Even if we all sometimes used the info to order from other vendors, we would often enough order from our local VW dealers. Someone has probably already thought of this with more refinement - but I am relatively new to the List.

> I would say that a certain double standard exists. The EKTA CD is not available to the public domain, and it is not being sold to the public as a viable business. In other words, even if you wanted to, you can't go out and buy a copy. It is for the use of VW dealers, not the public. I don't have a copy of the EKTA, but in my own little ethical world, that is why I wouldn't have a problem violating that copyright law. The same can be said for the VW Pro Training manuals. You can't buy them, and they weren't originally "sold". Bentley is available in the public domain, is being sold as a viable business. Copying it not only violates what ever applicable laws there are, but is also hurting someone's business, livelihood, and the investment that was made to author it. > That's my take... Seeing as a lot of us fell over ourselves to get a copy of the EKTA cd downloaded and burned, copywrite notwithstanding, what are chance of someone posting a copy of the new Bentley cd online for public consumption? Or do we on the list have a double standard? Alistair Bell
