the vanagon manual on cd is finally done it looks great and it's easy to

use. I got an advanced copy as payment for breaking there beans and to shut me up (no chance of that) they did amend the lifter pre loading procedure it now says

(Note-

It has been brought to the attention of the publisher that the hydraulic

valve lifters have been known to become air bound. Symptoms of air bound

lifters can include low manifold vacuum at warm idle, poor performance and hard starting. When air is present in the lifters it may be necessary to

set the valve adjustment screws to .006 inch (0.15 mm) clearance. This will allow the valves to completely close when the engine is at normal operating temperature and will help the lifter evacuate unwanted air. If, after driving the vehicle you are confident that there is no longer air in the

lifters, the valve adjustment screw can then be turned clockwise as described above (pre-load). Pre-loading the lifters could be considered optional and may not be necessary. Testing manifold vacuum at warm idle and/or cylinder compression tests should be done before and after any valve adjustments)

they would not change the 2 turns adjustment but they agreed there was a

problem in some cases with the lifters not closing when the engine warms

up. the manuals editor Stanagon got his own westy vanagon on the startup page. should be available in a week or so I don't have an exact date. Im

sure Ron at the depot will announce its arrival Boston Bob
