Driving up on a couple of chunks of 2x4 helps too. I bought chains to drive from Victoria BC to Toronto ON a few February's ago. Never needed them but when I 'practiced' putting the chains on before I left the blocks made life much easier. I didn't want to learn how to put the chains on at some mountain rest area in a snowstorm at night.

"sno chain ramps"

came across this gizmo for helping attach chains. Looks like it actually would be useful.

Although, it also looks like something some of us cheapskates would spend countless hours in the garage trying to copy!
