Jay and to the rest of you- Thanks for your suggestions about fixing my odometer. I had attempted to repair my odometer the day I slid off the road as I had posted to the list. Aside from the slide, I did not fix my odometer, it was still frozen. Sunday afternoon, I pulled the speedo/odo unit out again. Again I found the spindle turning freely as well as the plastic gear that engages the worm gear. Luckily, I didn't have to open the housing or the speedo face place to do this. To repair this, I pinched the pointed end of the spindle as hard as I could with a pair of pliers to keep it from sliding through the housing. On the other end, I epoxied the crap out of the plastic (or is it nylon gear) that fits on the spindle and engages the worm gear. I waited until the epoxy set (I broke the speedo arrow as well and had to epoxy that too). I reinstalled it, tried it out and hooray, it worked! Now to tackle my '86 Jetta's odometer... Thanks again all! |
