Hi Bill, As a matter of fact I did try the Arizona desert, better yet we went down to the UFO place in New Mexico, Roswell, and back. And it was scary because every mile on the freeway you could see those big black spots on the edge where a car has burnt. And VWs are burners. But using Mobil 1 and an additive for better friction. My oil temp gauge was at 300, the air temp in the shade was 120 and we drove all day 70 mph in the heat. That is when you really miss the aircon. I also use a South African super filter that filters out ten times smaller particles than ordinary ones. All in all it was totally uneventful driving. We even did Death Valley.
