Current Volvos have an Audi 5 pot diesel, but that's only the recent cars (850/V70 series). The 240 and 740 series had a VW 6 cylinder inline, which never served in VW passenger cars, but originally came out of the VW LT van (sort of a Super-Vanagon, sold in Europe only). Don't know if the 5-banger would fit. The straight 6 is certainly too long.
