Bradley,

Sounds like you have the infamous cracked-Vanagon-cylinder-head syndrome. I
have seen quite a few crack right next to that exact head nut, it will
appear that the leak is coming from the nut itself, but I'll bet if you look
closely you will see a hairline crack at the radius of the machined recess
where the nut fits. Only real lasting fix is to replace the head. Sorry to
be the bearer of bad news....
