Yes David,  very common.  Also is a common paint problem, the driver side
door's paint chipping off near the pull up door lock by the seat belt having
been undone and the metal buckle hitting around there.  After many years
there can be many, many chips.
The remedy obviously is to fix it before it gets worse.  A little paint goes
a long way.  Even touch ups are good once the surface is prepared.  Than
smooth it with a 1500-2000 wet sandpaper than give it a rub with a fine wax.
